Garage doors as main focus

I totally agree that the wide, sometimes contrasting color, garage doors on modern houses are an eyesore.

What happened to the driveway that entered into the garage from the side or back? There are some very elegant designs that have the garage coming off the front of the house, by the porch/entry, in an el with a window or two toward the street that match the house windows. The car comes up the front drive, then turns right or left into the garage, and from the street it looks like another living space.

When people started making garage doors the blinding focus of their homes, homes stopped looking livable.
